My name is Laura Romney and I will be teaching fifth grade at Canyon Rim Academy at the start of the new school year. I’m so excited to be teaching fifth grade! I think fifth grade is an exciting time of life; it’s an age full of wonder and increasing independence all at the same time. I promise, we will have a great year of discovery, challenge and fun together!
I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself. I grew up in the area just above Wasatch Boulevard and now I live in the Millcreek area. I truly have lived in the shadow of Mt. Olympus my whole entire life. I am married to Richard Romney and I have four children, ages 19 to 11. I love to do things with my children like play games, read books and go to our cabin. I’ve always loved kids of all ages and my favorite thing to do is teach something to someone. I graduated from the University of Utah in 1986 with a B.A. in English. I taught eighth and ninth grade English for one year before I started having my family. While my children have been in school, I have spent a lot of time in their elementary school volunteering and working part-time with several different grades. I decided during those years that elementary school is the place for me. I’ve been back at University of Utah for the last two years earning a Master’s Degree in Education which also came with an Elementary Education Degree. Now, I can teach in the best grade imaginable—fifth! Please feel to e-mail at home anytime. My e-mail is rmromney@msn.com.
Be sure to have a summer where you eat lots of popsicles, stare at the clouds, and have your nose in lots of books!
Mrs. Romney
